Scotland's Dismal Defeat: Germany Dominates in Euro 2024 Opener

10-Man Scotland Wilts Under Germany's Scorching Performance

Scotland's Euro 2024 journey began with a dismal defeat in Munich, as Germany's ruthless performance exposed the vulnerabilities of Steve Clarke's side.

Despite playing most of the match with 10 men following John McGinn's expulsion in the 56th minute, Scotland looked outclassed by a rampant Germany, who dominated possession and created numerous scoring opportunities throughout the encounter.

The hosts stormed into an early lead through Leroy Sané's 10th-minute strike, setting the tone for a one-sided affair. Timo Werner doubled Germany's advantage just before the half-hour mark, and Kai Havertz wrapped up a comfortable win with a late goal.

Scotland's hopes of a comeback were dealt a further blow when Liam Cooper was sent off for a second yellow card deep into injury time, leaving them with only nine players on the field.

This emphatic victory sees Germany sit atop Group A with a healthy goal difference of plus four, while Scotland languishes at the bottom without a point. The Scots will need to regroup quickly ahead of their next fixture against Slovenia, where they will be desperate for a positive result.
